Progetto Bagnoli

Bagnoli Project

MASTERPLAN

The urban planning excerpt - approved in August 2019 and again, with amendments, in 2023 - defines the use of the land and the sizing of all functions, public and private, planned in the Bagnoli area.

Starting from the sizing, the new layout of the area is defined in the masterplan resulting from the international competition of ideas – Bagnoli UrbaNature, in which 36 architectural and urban design studios participated and which was followed by a process of institutional sharing and consultation, involving more than 70 stakeholders and 220 people.

The winning project - Balneolis e la nuova stagione felix - presented by RTI S.Barch-Studio Bargone Architetti Associati - tells of the return to the ideal of “Campania Felix”, expressed according to a contemporary interpretation of the genius loci.

The Bagnoli project seeks to create a new urban district, a site for living and frequenting for work, sport and fun 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The heart of the project is the large urban park of about 130 hectares that extends from the Bagnoli district to the Posillipo hill, also integrating with a park area of about 30 hectares dedicated to sport.

The urban park connects to the new waterfront that from Via Coroglio reaches the sea, finally fit for swimming. A long promenade of about 2 km develops from the Bagnoli district to the Posillipo hill, welcoming bars, restaurants and commercial activities.

The project also provides for the re-functionalisation of the industrial archaeology artefacts within which valuable functions will be placed capable of acting as a central point and as meeting places for the new district, respecting the historical memory of the site.
