We’re expanding broadband to reduce the digital divide 

Infratel Italia S.p.A. is an in-house company of the Ministry of Economic Development and the implementing party of the Government’s Broadband and Ultra Broadband Plans. 
Its goal is to reduce the digital divide in areas of market failure, through the creation and integration of infrastructures capable of extending the opportunities for fast Internet access. Access to broadband and ultra broadband services is, in fact, essential for the development and competitiveness of a modern economic system, based on knowledge and on the fast and efficient exchange of data and information. 

Infratel’s main operations are: 

• mapping market failure areas through contacts with telecommunications operators
• planning interventions avoiding duplication of investments
• planning infrastructures and networks for broadband and ultra broadband by using existing and available infrastructure in the area and thus optimising investments
• managing tenders for the construction of infrastructures and evaluating investment projects in the context of the National Broadband Plan and the Ultra Broadband strategic project
• managing the works realised and maintaining their efficiency over time
• guaranteeing access to infrastructures to all operators under fair and non-discriminatory conditions.
