BREVETTI+ 2024

The incentive for the economic valorisation of patents.

BREVETTI+ 2024

WHAT IT IS

Brevetti+ is the incentive for the economic valorisation of patents, promoted by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and managed by Invitalia.

Aimed at micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, it has been refinanced in 2024 with a budget of € 20 million.  The financial benefits are granted in the form of a non-repayable contribution for a maximum amount of € 140,000.

WHO IT IS FOR

The financial benefits are aimed at micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, also newly incorporated, with their registered offices and operations in Italy, who possess at least one of the following requirements:

  • they are the holders of a patent for an industrial invention granted in Italy after 1 January 2023 or they are the holders of an exclusive licence transcribed at the UIBM of a patent for an industrial invention granted in Italy after 1 January 2023.
  • they are holders of a national patent application for an industrial invention filed after 1 January 2022 with a research report with a “non-negative” outcome.
  • they are the holders of a patent granted by the EPO and validated in Italy after 1 January 2023;
  • they are the holders of a European patent application or an international patent application filed after 1 January 2022, with the related research report with a “non-negative” outcome, claiming priority over a previous national patent application.

In addition, companies that meet one of the three previous conditions are eligible for the benefits if they meet the following requirements on the date of presentation of the application for the financial benefits:

  • they are enrolled in the Companies Register;
  • they are in the full and free exercise of their civil rights, not being in voluntary liquidation.

Companies cannot present an application if:

  • they are excluded from “de minimis” aid;
  • they have administrative procedures in progress.

WHAT IT FINANCES

Brevetti+ is aimed at the purchasing of specialised services for the economic valorisation of a patent in terms of profitability, productivity and market development.

The incentive can finance the purchase of specialised services relating to:

  • design, engineering and industrialisation;
  • organisation and development;
  • technology transfer.

The financial benefits provide for a non-repayable contribution up to a maximum of € 140,000, which cannot exceed 80% of the eligible costs (*). This percentage of the financial benefits can reach 85% of the eligible costs in the case of companies in possession of gender equality certification.

The incentives are granted under the de minimis regime.

(*) The aforementioned limit is raised to 100% for beneficiary companies that at the time of presentation of the application were joint owners – with a Public Research Body (Universities, Research Institutions and IRCCS) – of the patent application or patent issued or holders of an exclusive license concerning a patent issued to one of the aforementioned public bodies, already transcribed at the UIBM, without territorial extension constraints.
