Claudio Tesauro is a partner and head of the antitrust practice at BonelliErede. He is based in Rome and his team is based in Brussels, Rome, and Milan.
Claudio is one of Italy’s leading experts on EU law and competition. His specific expertise is in the following sectors: telecommunications and media; energy and gas; transport and financial services; and insurance and postal services. In regard to these sectors, Claudio has worked on the transposition of the EU directives on liberalization in Italy and as well as the problems related to the opening of these sectors to competition.
Claudio represents clients in administrative proceedings (before the Italian Competition Authority and the European Commission), as well as in courts (regional administrative courts, the Council of State, the Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court, and the European Court of Justice).
After graduating from the University of Naples and gaining a Master’s degree in Comparative Law from New York University, Claudio joined Fox Horan & Camerini in New York. He then moved to the Competition Division of Legal Services of the European Commission. In 1992, he co-founded the law firm Tizzano-Pappalardo, which evolved into BonelliErede.
Alongside being the Chairman of Invitalia, Claudio is also the chairman of Save the Children Italy Onlus and of the Italian Antitrust Authority. Previously he was a board member of the TNT Post Italy (2003–2015) and of the Save the Children International (2010–2013).
Claudio has been awarded several accolades. The most recent was from Legalcommunity Corporate M&A, which announced him the Best Antitrust Lawyer in 2016.
Claudio is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on competition law and consumer protection. He has also authored several publications on these topics.
