Claudio Tesauro is a partner and head of the antitrust practice at BonelliErede. He is based in Rome and his team is based across the Brussels, Rome and Milan offices.
He is one of Italys leading experts in EU law and competition, particularly regarding telecommunications and media, energy and gas, transport and financial services, insurance and postal services. Claudio represents clients in administrative proceedings (before the Italian Competition Authority, and the European Commission), and in courts (regional administrative courts, the Council of State, the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court, and the European Court of Justice). With reference to these markets, Claudio has also worked on the transposition into Italian law of the EU Directives on liberalisation and problems related to the opening of these markets to competition.
After graduating from the University of Naples, and gaining a masters degree in comparative law from New York University, he joined Fox Horan & Camerini in New York, before moving on to the Competition Division of the Legal Services of the European Commission. In 1992, he co-founded the law firm Tizzano-Pappalardo, which evolved into BonelliErede.
Claudio holds various offices: he is the chairman of Save the Children Italy Onlus and of the Italian Antitrust Authority, a former board member of the TNT Post Italy (20032015) and of Save the Children International (20102013).
Leading legal directories have awarded Claudio several accolades, the most recent of which being Legalcommunity Corporate M&A, which crowned him Best Antitrust Lawyer in 2016.
Claudio is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on competition law and consumer protection, and has authored several publications on these matters.
