Invitalia and STMicroelectronics have signed a Development Contract that will upgrade and innovate the site in Catania, where semiconductor devices are manufactured on 200mm silicon substrates.
The agreement was signed in Rome by Domenico Arcuri, CEO of Invitalia, and Pietro Palella, CEO of STMicroelectronics Italy.
The investment was announced last week in Palazzo Chigi, by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi during a press conference on strategic investment projects in Italy and especially in the Southern Italy.
STMicroelectronics will invest 45 million euro, including 29 mil funded by Invitalia.
Part of the amount (5 million euro) will go towards an industrial research and experimental development programme, for production investment, which will be implemented in collaboration with the National Research Council and the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems.
