With a mission planned for 22 - 26 February 2010, Invitalia has expanded its inward investment operations in Australia. The Agency has scheduled two meetings in Sydney (22 23 February) and Melbourne (25 26 February) to present to Australian companies interesting business opportunities in the most growing sectors in Italy, such as logistics and infrastructures, tourism, renewable energy and biotechnology.
The mission, which gathers at the same table industry leaders and key financial institutions representatives from Italy and Australia, aims at developing existing relationships and presenting investment opportunities in both countries.
Workshops have been organised in partnership with Austrade - Australian Trade Commission (the Australian Government's trade and investment development agency), the Italian Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Sydney and Melbourne, with the support of the Italian Embassy in Canberra, the Australian Federal Government and Australian States Governments. The Italian delegation includes, in addition to Invitalia, some partners from Invitalia Business Network (BNL-BNP Paribas, DLA Phillips Fox, Baker & McKenzie) and ANCE - Associazione Nazionale Costruttori Edili (the National Association of private construction contractors).
Invitalia, represented by the Inward Investment Unit Director, Giuseppe Arcucci, aims to increase the number of Australian companies in our Country, also through direct interaction with main representatives of the Australian Government, among whom the Australian Minister for Infrastructure, Anthony Albanese.
Moreover, the Agency is going to set up a closer partnership with the most important Australian financial investors, such as Future Fund and Macquaire Bank, in order to promote the development of Australian investments in Italy and, more generally, cooperation between Italian and Australian companies, based on the same operative model successfully applied in other Countries, such as China and Japan. Moreover, in Melbourne Invitalia will meet the representatives of UBS Bank, one of the world's leading financial firm, in order to evaluate an inward investment partnership.
In 2009, thanks to closer cooperation with Austrade, the Agency provided its services to 10 Australian companies interested in evaluating settlement opportunities in Italy. The figure confirms the Australian economy is solid and has not been affected by the international economic crisis. It also confirms Australian companies interest for our Country and its investment opportunities.
